This was my third time hiking Baldy but the first from the Baldy Parking Lot and hiking up the Devil’s Backbone instead of down. It was a completely different experience and an easier hike than expected except getting up to the peak…that was difficult and I took my time. The most rewarding part of this hike was meeting a 78 year old woman who told me she had hiked Baldy 317 times. As we were headed towards the last part of the backbone up to the peak she veered to the right. I asked if that was the trail (though I knew it wasn’t) and she said it’s harder this way!!!! I was in awe of her and hoped at 78 I would still be hiking but doing peaks….I sure hope so :-)!
