Peak San Bernardino
Group 3H- Hiking for Health and Happiness
Trailhead San Bernardino Peak Trail 1W07

Met at 0530. The large group was broken into groups of 12 hikers/each permit and started out at intervals. Gorgeous trail and terrific trail conditions. This was a long, tough hike that spanned 11 hours and 17 miles in total. Stunning views along the hike and at the summit!! A few snow patches to trek through, which were very refreshing in the heat!! As a new hiker, I continue to feel very challenged, but rewarded, by the terrain challenges/obstacles along the trail. A bit painful on the knees toward the end of every hike, but nothing that some Ibuprofen and rest can’t help! I am SO THRILLED to have “bagged” my third peak! I had the added challenge of using my nursing skills to render first aid to a fellow group member who fell back into a hole, striking her head on a boulder. This required diligent assessing, bandaging her head, and helping her hike the last six miles. Having just started hiking this past February, I have already rendered aid 3 times on a trail. I am so glad that I read the Essentials advice of So Cal Hiker(Jeff) and other sites! (Of course, having been an ICU nurse for 21 years, I tend to go overboard on what I bring!).
