Peak Cucamonga Peak
Group Hike Beyond the Hills
Trailhead Winehouse Canyon

I can’t believe it’s already May and I had only done one of the 6 Pack, and that was Mt.Wilson, twice. So today I went up with Hike Beyond the Hills. Of course, I was late so hustled, as best a fat old guy can, up the trail to catch up with them. I caught up soon enough and we made it up to the Saddle in two hours. It was breezy and chilly, but nice. Stumbled across a torpid rattlesnake trying to warm up in the sun. It was a little cold for snakes, low 40s or so. It rose up and didn’t care to be disturbed, but it moved as slow as molasses so no harm. There isn’t much snow left. Some patches, but easily crossed or bypassed. We never took out our microspikes. Submitted in under 4 hrs, including breaks, which I’m OK with. Rose up above the clouds past Big Horn Saddle. It was a beautiful day on one of the nicest trails in Southern California. We had a little rain on the way down, but a little rain doesn’t bother hikers. Another awesome hike on one of the best peaks in Southern California. We are so blessed to have the opportunity to enjoy these mountains. I’ll be back again soon, thus is a great hike.
