Peak San Gorgonio
Group Hike Beyond the Hills
Trailhead Vivian Creek

I must be the most gullible guy on Earth. I’ve done this hike 3 times before and somehow agreed to do it again. You’d think I’d know better. But I got tricked into doing it again and up I went up with the Hike Beyond the Hills crew who were kind enough to put up with my plodding pace and muttered complaints.
We started before the crack of dawn with very little sleep. We planned to camp, but thought better of it after looking at the weather report. We lucked out. We didn’t get rained on and beat the heat by heading up the mountain. Somehow I always underestimate how tough the last mile is. Must be premature senility.
It’s a tough walk, but worth it. Afterwards. In retrospect. At the time doubts creep in, but I pushed them aside and summited.
It’s a shame that we have to come down, but the hike’s only half over at the summit, we’ve all got to get down. And it always seems like the trail is longer on the way down. Still eventually we got down in a respectable time, and after a root beer float it didn’t seem like such an ordeal and I’m already thinking about the next time.
