Peak Mt Wilson
Group hiked with Leon Morrison, Tiffany Forrand, April Larson & Brenda Saubert-Roczey
Trailhead Chantry Flats

So this was my “inaugural” effort for the Six Pack Challenge and what an enjoyable hike it was.
I have hiked and ran the trail leading to the site of the waterfall multiple times in recent years, but this was my first time to head on up the mountain and see what awaited me at the top.
The best part of this hike is the return of water to this area thanks to all of the rainfall this year. It has been a long while since I have actually seen the waterfall in action and been able to hear the sound of running water along the trail. It made for such a pleasant start to the hike and a sound that is so much more appreciated after all of these drought conditions we’ve had.
We started at 6 AM with headlamps and were able to ditch those by the time we reached the waterfall. The weather was fantastic with blue skies and about 55 degrees when we started….81 by the time we finished and left the parking lot at 1:30, but had acclimated along the way and did not feel that bad.
As many know, the peak was pleasant, but the real joy in this hike is the actual beauty of the trail itself and all of the foliage along the way. We did have a pleasant view of Downtown L.A. partially obscured by clouds and wonderful vistas of the surrounding mountain ranges both on the way up and back down.

Overall, this was an excellent 1st hike and I’m looking forward to our next, Cucamonga, on 4/15.

Happy hiking everyone!
