Peak Mt Wilson
Group Rogue Juan
Trailhead Chantry Flats

Perfect, sunny, DRY breezy day for the first 6 pack of peaks challenge hike to Mt. Wilson.
Started at Chantry Flats and trekked the 7 miles up in 4 hours. The CosmicCafé at summit was closed but there was some complementary self-serve coffee and hot chocolate there and let me tell you.. that was the best cup of coffee I have ever had. Hit the spot ..especially since summit got a bit chilly!
I bet my boyfriend (an avid hiker) that there would be SOME snow up at summit. He was confident we wouldn’t see any. Just as we were able to make our way down, we changed our minds on what trail we were going to descend. Last minute we decided to take the Strutevant Trail and right as we were about to make our way down lo and behold… SNOW!! Granted they were small patches, but snow is snow and a bet is a bet!
Made it down the mountain in just about 3 hours. I will admit I didn’t care for the pave road major incline you have to take to get back to Chantry Flats parking lot, but I loved everything about this hike. Beautiful views, the peaceful sounds of the rushing creek water, and great great company! 1 down 5 to go!

  1. Next time you can skip the big incline by taking the Upper Winter Creek Trail to Chantry rather than the Lower Winter Creek Trail.

And I have to say, I’m a little disappointed you didn’t post any photos of the snow. 😉
