Peak Mt Baldy
Group TEAM GD
Trailhead Manker Flats

Steve and I detecting this hike to our friend Greg Daraban who lost his fight to cancer 3 days ago. We are rocking our DOING IT FOR GREG t-shirts. 39 degrees at 6:40am (early start with rain predicted in the afternoon) and on our way past the falls via Baldy Notch. Leaving the Notch is where it gets steep but get a chance to recover heading left on the ridge toward the summit. Narrow and steep on both sides cruising the backbone. Dig the moonscape as the summit comes into view and being above the clouds. The final push up the summit was slow but steady with winds blowing over 40 mph. At the summit, it was 31 degrees and found someone to take our photos in our t-shirts (totally worth it). After lunch we headed down Baldy Bowl way. Steep with rock on rock slipping a few times made it slow go. The hill side was squeezing out the water in the clouds that were against it making it damp and wet under the trees. We stopped at the ski hut for a snack and then made our way toward the trail head. The last mile we were in the rain but in the proper gear, staying dry and DOING IT FOR GREG – not a problem. Total Time 6:51hr – Total Distance 11:87mi (car, not trail-head) Elevation Gain 4,144
