Trailhead Cucamonga Peak via Icehouse Canyon

#sixpackofpeaks – Cucamonga Peak
We started hiking at 6:30 am on Saturday 5/13/17. The parking lot was full already. The hike starts of easy with few rustic cabins and ruins. Super relaxing to hear birds chirping and water flowing, mother nature at it’s best! Couple miles into the hike other hikers pointed out spring flowing really good. They hiked this trail many times and never saw it this full. They filled up a bottle and said it was ok to drink. We had plenty water and kept on going. The saddle is a good place for a break. After the saddle parts of the trail are super narrow, on the edge of cliffs and almost dangerous. The terrain towards the end is very rocky so watch your footing! Hiking poles were helpful on this hike.
We had excellent hiking weather, cool in the morning and about 70 by the time we were done. Hardly any snow left, just few single patches almost at the top. The views are beyond stunning so plan to spend some time on top to enjoy.
You can see Mt. San Jacinto, San Gorgonio and Mt. Baldy. I was surprised how crowded this trail was. We recorded 11.2 miles, elevation gain 4200 and took us almost 8 hours including the 45 minutes on top and many stops to chat with others. Done with two, four more to go!
