Trailhead Marion

Drove up from San Diego, started at 1:34 p.m.. Weather was HOT! Trail from Marion is brutal first 3 miles, it’s a lot of elevation gain. But there is some shade throughout and the scenery is gorgeous! Started my Garmin Vivoactive at may car in the dirt parking lot, right in front if the trail-head. Made excellent time, summited at 4:44. Expected to summit at 4:30,but it was hot and had to take a couple extra breathers. Garmin read 6.41 miles at the San Jacinto sign. I did not navigate away from the trail at any point, so that is accurate reading for exact distance from trail-head at Marion Campground-dirt parking lot, to the summit. I’ve summited before, from Deer Springs, and though longer, it is not as steep as Marion. Coming down was a treat, and I did not make any stops. Packed ultra lightweight backpack so I was able to run sections down. I ran the first 1.4 miles to Little Round Valley, then hiked 2.0 miles, then ran the remaining 3.0 miles. Total time down 2 hours. Total trip time: 12.8 miles @ 5 hours 20 minutes. approximately.
