Hi Jeff,
our trip leader, who applied, AND GOT, a permit for the JMT has to cancel for unknown reasons. We still are gung-ho to hit the trail!
What should we do? I thought only the trip leader can pick up the actual permit.
Thanks,
Rick
Were you starting in Yosemite and hiking southbound? If so, the person who made the permit reservation should be able to contact the ranger station and add you (or another party member) as a leader. Give them a call to confirm and let me know what you find out!
Jeff, Yes, we are starting at Tenaya Lakes TH and hiking south. The trip leader called the wilderness center and made me the alternate trip leader.
According to the ranger, they really don’t care about “alternate” leaders, and anybody can come in and pick up the actual permit as long as they have a PRINTED copy of the confirmation email received when your application was approved.
So, we are good to go!!
Rick
