Research shows that the colder weather actually makes walking this season even more beneficial for your health: not only providing higher calorie burn.Outdoor activities in winter can fully exercise the human body’s antifreeze ability and field survival ability. However, natural factors in winter are unpredictable, and there are naturally many precautions. So what do you need to pay attention to when hiking outdoors in winter?

    Hiking equipment

For outdoor clothing, in addition to normal waterproof and windproof clothing, you should also bring down jackets, fleece pants, hiking shoes, gloves, hats, etc.

Trekking poles, a well-measured trekking pole can help you save energy and master the terrain under heavy snow, and help you maintain your body balance in complex terrain.

Sleeping bags, down sleeping bags are the best choice, thick cotton sleeping bags plus a fleece sleeping bag can also be substituted. The amount of down filling in a down sleeping bag should be determined according to the individual’s physical fitness, but moisture-proof work must be done well. Once it gets wet, it will be difficult to dry.

For moisture-proof mats, it is best to bring a thicker or aluminum-thin moisture-proof mat. For general moisture-proof mats, it is best to bring an extra floor mat to increase warmth.

Snow gloves and sunglasses, these two are necessities for snow walking. The former prevents snow from entering the hiking boots. The latter prevents snow blindness from happening.

Others, you can bring hiking hand warms. In addition to normal purposes, putting them on your inner pockets can also keep you warm.

    Warm up and prepare

Generally speaking, when you feel your body start to sweat, you should say that you have done enough warm-up. Warm up can be done with some indoor sports equipment, or outdoors, such as jogging with small steps.

    Self-protection

    ①Eye protection

Sunglasses should be prepared to prevent the sunlight reflected from the snow from hurting the eyes. Avoid wearing contact lenses when possible.

    ② Anti-slip

When walking on ice, the knees should be slightly bent, and the center of gravity of the body should be leaned forward, so that it is not easy to fall. Ice and snow tools such as crampons should also be selected according to specific conditions.

    ③Climate

When there is a sudden change in climate (such as sudden strong winds, sudden drop in temperature, etc.), it is best to suspend outdoor activities and take emergency measures. Because of the wind and snow, it is easy to lose your way. Absolutely avoid solo activities, such as fetching water alone.

    ④ direction

Bring a compass. If you don’t have one, learn to judge the direction: if it’s a night with stars, the two outer edges of the Big Dipper extend about 5 times toward the opening to become the North Star, which means true north. If there is sun during the day, let the hour hand point to the direction of the sun, the bisector between the hour hand and 12 o’clock is south, choose the bisector of the small angle before 6:00pm, and choose the bisector of the large angle after 6:00pm.

    Keep body temperature

The biggest danger you face outdoors in winter comes from the low temperature in hiking or camping, so frostbite and hypothermia are strictly guarded against.

It is best to wear light, waterproof and breathable cold-proof clothes, cold-proof gloves, hats, scarves, cold-proof shoes, and hiking shoes. This can prevent slipping and falling on ice and snow, and is also conducive to mountain climbing.

At the same time, you should also bring a set of dry clothes and a pair of socks, and you would better to keep a rechargeable hand warmer in your bag. Fingers, feet, and face are prone to frostbite. Once you feel numb or frostbite, you should go back to the room in time and rub gently with your hands to relieve it. Ocoopa Union 5s would be your best aid now. This hand warmer will deliver comfortable warmth to you in a flash. Moreover, the temperature memory function allows you to enjoy just the right warmth as soon as you turn on the device.Helping you to enjoy uninterrupted warmth and always be ready for any adventure.

Winter is dry and windy, and the skin surface loses more moisture. You can bring some oily moisturizing skin care products to prevent rough and chapped skin. The ultraviolet rays in winter are also strong, so you can prepare sunscreen accordingly.

The human body generates more heat during exercise, but it is easily affected by the external temperature before and after exercise. Therefore, you should add clothes in time when resting and at the end of exercise.

    Correct backpack

Put heavy objects that are not afraid of bumps on the lower part. It is best if the backpack can be independent after putting it away.

Tighten the waist belt so that the crotch bears the most gravity, and relax the shoulder belt so that the top of the shoulder belt is at an angle of 45-60 degrees. Walking like this is like not carrying anything on your back.

There are also skills in carrying heavy bags on the shoulders. Put the backpack at a certain height and put your shoulders into the shoulder straps. Lean forward and stand up on your legs.

    Replenish energy

Replenish energy in time, preferably high-energy food, and bring enough glucose.

Outdoor exercise in winter requires as much water as in summer, and drinking water can be plain water or sports drinks. If you drink too much water, you will feel inconvenient in outdoor activities. Carrying throat lozenges at all times can relieve thirst.

    Timely rest

During outdoor activities in winter, you should rest in good time and don’t move forward with fatigue. At the same time, don’t rest too much and stay too long.

    Snow walking

When the team is marching, the players behind should try to follow the footsteps of the players in front. One is for safety, and the other is to save energy. When encountering heavy snow and no way to find, the strong players should take turns to open the way in order to ensure the average physical fitness of the whole team. The key to hiking in the snow is to be slow and steady. It doesn’t matter if you walk less or go slowly. You must not hurry!

Although many people like to hike and climb in the winter, just remember the most important thing — Keep yourself warm and safe!
