Hello, I’m getting a little overwhelmed trying to figure this out on my own so maybe someone can make this easy for me… I am looking for some hike options within a 1-1.5 hour drive from LA (super early morning so not factoring in traffic) where I can hike up early and be at the summit for sunrise. Ideally something in the 3-5 hour range, round trip, and I enjoy lots of elevation and strenuous hikes but nothing dangerous given the darkness in the morning. Any suggestions would be welcome. I did Sandstone Peak last weekend and found it easy, would like to try something different.

I would suggest Mt Baden-Powell or Mt Baldy. Both are great hikes with super views. Baden-Powell is probably “safer” although with a headlamp and proper experience, you should be fine at either. For Baldy, going up Devil’s Backbone is longer, but the trail is easier to follow IMO.
