Wow I’m glad I read your post as I had forgotten Mt Wilson was closed…phone call tomorrow!! Unless you have new info Jeff. Thanks for this heads up either way, I was going up this weekend so maybe a change to my plans 😉
I’d love to try your route in reverse, same as the ladies you ran into at High Creek!November 28, 2017 at 9:23 pm in reply to: Washing your dishes when backpacking, the Leave No Trace way #399732
Informative vid series, Thanks Jeff!
Just do their thing…Forget about the most of us who hope to get away from garbage like this. Smh, smh… 🙁
Ok WHOA I just saw Marc’s post on the changes to the trail! Anyway, you’ll love this trek !! 🙂 <3
Oh wow those are big changes from my journey back in March. Thanks for posting Marc!!
Beatriz when I was there at end of March this year it was perfect! Not hot not cold and clear skies! So things I learned:
-The person at the conservancy told me your campground reservations, which you can print yourself, serve as your hike permit. I had previously been told I had to get a permit at the conservancy and this cost valuable time waiting for it to open at 8am.
-Make your reservations NLT than January. There were just a handful of us who realized we were doing the same thing but two hikers couldn’t get a site for the last campground, Parson’s Landing. Fortunately a couple of us were solo and could share our site 🙂
-If you go all the way to Starlight Beach, the formal end of the TCT, there’s an option for detour(at least when I went there was. The posted trail sign looked new so I’m guessing it’s still an option!) Take it on your way back, you’ll enjoy it!
-Should you choose to spend two nights at any site I recommend Little Harbor. And if you can, have a meal at Airport in the Sky!
You’ve got this girl!!
Earlier this year I did TCT and like CeCe I found the trail and the island to be quite immaculate!
Maybe go over for the day as a recon/observation/data gathering trip to make your decision on how you will ultimately conduct your longer trip.
Jeff, Veronika, and Phil thank you! Putting down the words was fun <3
Nika & Phil your trail feedback was truly helpful and of course Jeff you being the one who got us all started up these paths, MANY many thanks to you all 😉
See you all at the finishers celebration!!
I’ve had my eyes on that forecast. Thanks friend for the lookout <3
Have a great hike! I’m heading up 9/21 earrrly a.m. with a buddy. I’m not brave enough to go at the ‘faster pace’ or we would join you lol !! We all get to share existences at the finishers celebration ???
Philip THANK YOU! It’s piece of mind knowing the trail signs are well placed and my trail map is always in my pack along with compass 🙂 (Harrison is my favorite!) I know where the ranger station is and your advice to locate the trail head before-hand is well taken so I will try and squeeze that into the days before I hike!
Thank you again and be blessed sir as you have been a blessing 😉
Hi Philip Thank you for such a quick response 🙂 San Jacinto is my last peak and yes I want to complete it hopefully not under the wire of 30 September! I’m looking at 21 Sep. I’ve not been on this trail before, or any trail to the peak so I’m hoping for a hike buddy who is familiar with it.
Congrats on finishing!!
I backpacked Catalina at end March this year. Little Harbor was a LOVELY pit stop between Blackjack and Two Harbors! I left Little harbor about 2pm and got into Two Harbors around sunset. So at end March…. 3ish hors…? Maybe close to four. Hope this is helpful!
Thank you so much for keeping this going for our wonderful hiking community Jeff! So Exciting! I still need my San Jacinto but I’ll ‘git ‘er done!!
