It looks like the Lake Fire Closures in the San Gorgonio Wilderness are set to expire tomorrow. Does anyone have any intel if they plan on extending the closures for another year or opening the Wilderness up. Would be nice to do a little backpacking to bag San Bernardino and San Gorgonio Peaks on the same trip.
I spoke with Forest Service personnel on the phone this morning and I was advised to keep watch of the Alerts and Notices section of the San Bernardino National Forest webpage. At this time the Forest Service is still evaluating what will be opened up, or not.
I hope that helps. I know that we are all drooling over the potential to get back in that area. 🙂
I posted latest info I got today from ranger re: Lake Fire trail status in Trail Reports.
South Fork – open
Fish – still severely impacted; many fallen trees making spots impassable
Dry Lake – impacted; not recommended
Dollar Lake – ok and recommended route
