Very scenic hike along streams and waterfalls; but very crowded at the bottom on a Saturday. Also, parking lot full almost immediately after park opens so plan on parking down the road a bit. Weather was perfect so even though I missed my meet-up group, with 10 essentials in my pack I decided to grab a map at the information booth/snack bar and head off on my own. The folks who sold me the map recommended a route also which passed the old historic Sturdevant Camp and another backpacker’s campground. Underestimated the switchbacks toward the summit, they seemed to go on and on. After a short rest at the switchback “halfway bench” I made it to the top. Again, since I was solo, I took a leisurely self guided tour around the observatory museum and had a cold beverage at the cafe. Decided to come back down the same way I came up even thought there is a much traveled loop. Nice day, and kind of really enjoyed the solitude of hiking alone.
