Remember Don Viejo? Last May the 85-year old was posting flyers in the local mountains advertising for a lady hiker friend, with interviews to be conducted atop Mt. Baden-Powell.
Apparently there is still an opening, if your name is Deborah and you were hiking at Henniger Flats on New Years Day. Here’s his latest message:
HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM DON VIEJO,
TO A QUARTET OF BEAUTIFUL LADIES.
WE MET ON NEW YEARS DAY, JANUARY 1,2015,
AT THE HENNIGER FLATS HIKING TRAIL, ENTRY SIGN MONUMENT.
I TOOK YOUR PICTURE. YOUR NAMES WERE:
DEBORAH
AMY
BARBARA
LADY WITH CAMERA
I TOLD THE STORY ABOUT THE “BOILED RAT”, AND A POEM.
“I HIKE FOR HEALTH AND PLEASURE.
I SEARCH NOT FOR GOLD OR GAIN.
I KNOW THAT I AM CRAZY,
BUT I’M GLAD, I’M NOT INSANE.”
I WOULD LIKE TO HIKE WITH DEBORAH, BUT DO NOT KNOW HER LAST NAME
THIS MESSAGE IS FLYING BLIND LIKE A SEARCH AND RESCUE MISSION.
MY EMAIL IS vaho@att.net
“QUE SERA, SERA,
WHAT EVER WILL BE, WILL BE.
THE FUTURE’S NOT OURS TO SEE,
QUE, SERA, SERA.”
Let’s see if we can give Don Viejo a hand and find the mystery lady-hiker named Deborah!
I hope he finds Deborah! To bad there isn’t a way for hikers to get ahold of him when they are planning a hike so he would have some company and his family would know he is safe. So glad you caught up with him and got the update….I had been wondering about him
