Smell as Great as Nature Is

smell_as_great_as_nature_is

I remember getting my dad Old Spice for Christmas when I was a kid. Back then, it came in a cedar box with a big wooden cap on the bottle. I thought it was a pretty awesome gift.

Today, Old Spice has expanded the Fresher Collection to harness outdoor-inspired scents that help guys smell as great as nature is. New scents Timber, Amber and Citron join Fiji and Denali. All five scents are available in anti-perspirant/deodorant, deodorant, body wash and body spray. Timber and Fiji are also available in shampoo and bar soap.  How do they do it?

SCIENCE!

Researchers have found evidence that smelling nature scents can have a similar calming effect to actually being outdoors. Old Spice partnered with Innerscope Research to determine if these nature-inspired scents have the same effect. Innerscope performed a battery of tests on 100 males, aged 18 to 34 years old. They found that the emotional response of the Fresher Collection was similar to that of those scents found in nature.

The key findings? Old Spice Fresher Collections makes people smile more. Seriously. The scents relaxed guys just as quickly and as much as smelling nature. And the scents are “significantly more likely than neutral scents to make him think of masculine activities, such as chopping wood or rock climbing.”

The technology behind the new Fresher Collection features a cyclic molecule with a core that is preloaded with fragrance. As a guy sweats, fragrance is pushed out of the core releasing bursts of fresh scent. I’m not sure how exactly it works, but as John Sebastian, Old Spice Brand Director says, “…it sure beats rubbing tree bark under your armpits.”

I tried out the new Timber scent, both the body spray and the deodorant,  and felt an overwhelming urge to climb a tree. Seriously, it’s a great, fresh scent that works for me. And my wife agrees.
