In Memoriam: SoCal Hiker Dean Diomedes

June 7, 2017 By Mark Johnson 12 Comments

Rest in peace, Dean Diomedes.

It is with an exceptionally heavy heart that the friends and family of Dean Diomedes announce he has climbed his last mountain.  He passed away last weekend while hiking with a couple of friends at San Bernardino Peak.

Dean was an adventurer, an OCR racer, a jiu-jitsu student, a Boston sports fan, a devout Catholic, a teacher who positively influenced thousands of kids, a loving father of three and a husband.  He completed the SoCal Hiker Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge in 2016 and was on his way to do it again this year.  He was planning to finish the Cactus 2 Clouds hike this month and next season’s Team Endeavor Challenge.

Dean passed away while doing something he absolutely loved.  His friends and family are going to miss this man’s gentle kindness and unassuming manner.  We are thankful to have shared some of his adventures and life.

Mr. Diomedes was my son’s religion teacher this year. He loved your quotes and daily conversations about baseball etc. Thank you for being a genuine good hearted person.
    May you rest in paradise♥️

Thank you for sharing this news, my prayers are all over his family and all his loved ones. Kindred spirits are too rare and Dean will be missed even, I venture to say, by those of us who didn’t know him personally. Love and peace.
