Peak San Gorgonio
Group N/A
Trailhead South Fork

6am start, cold and dark at the South Fork trailhead. Decided to take the loop option… South Fork to Dry Lake Trail (stayed right at the lake), to Sky High Trail and up to the peak! This was an emotional hike for us. Denise, AKA Boss and I started this 6 peak challenge not knowing what we got ourselves into. We excepted the challenge and got our t-shirts. Those t-shirts helped to push us. Before each peak, we crossed it out and placed a check mark with rhinestones and once we reached the peak we put the shirt on and wore it proudly down the mountain. Those rhinestones not only symbolized the early mornings, sweat and sore muscles put into each of the checked off peaks, but also our friendship that grew stronger through this process. As we climbed the final hill and could see San G peak in front of us, I bent over and cried like a baby. Knowing that we set this goal and conquered was so emotional. I had to calm myself down because I was out of breath, a little light headed and had a slight headache from the altitude and I didn’t want to pass out. So we pulled ourselves together made the final trek to the top, dropped our gear, put on our t-shirts (over our jackets because it was freezing) and stood on top of that beautiful pile of rocks to take our picture with that famous plaque. After the right of passage photo, we practically ran down the hill, only stopping a couple times because we didn’t want to hike out in the dark. Thank you SoCalHiker for the challenge… we will see you at the party!!!!
