This one was a pretty miserable experience mentally, but I feel like I learned a lot about how to handle conflict under intense conditions which was super eye-opening. The trail conditions were perfect and the summit, while difficult, was fine. On the way down, however, I had a hiking partner that seemed to be in a bit of a mood. I get a small version of altitude sickness on every hike so I was fighting with major nausea. At one point we ended up completely off trail and we made the rookie mistake of shooting down the mountain looking to “catch up with it” down below. Well, we weren’t in a switchback situation like we thought so we ended up hiking quite a few extra miles and then had to trace our steps back to find the original trail we were on again. Long story short, by the time it was all said and done I wasn’t sure if I was going to complete the 6 pack of peaks. However, I found myself being extremely proud of how I handled myself in the multitude of situations handed to me on that hike and being thankful for the experience and the lessons I learned. So, onward and upward – San G and San B are scheduled for next week!
