Trailhead SB Peak Trailhead

While the rest of the world was on Mt Baldy today doing the Climb for Heroes (I sponsored Jeff Hester to hike for me), I went solo to SB Peak in search of North facing snow slopes! And I found them. Starting above Limber Pines, snow was crossing the trail. It was a great day of solo route finding as the snow covered the trail. The ridge was filled with sun cups up to 5-feet high. Crampons and axe made a late May appearance! Fantastic day – almost nobody on the mountain.

  1. Heading up there tomorrow, as amazing but crowded Sunday was…looking forward to some solitude with the dog and mountain. Thanks for the update, was wondering what it was like up there! Doing Jacinto on Sunday, expecting similar conditions.

  2. Have fun Mike! I suspect the trail will be a lot more visible for you than it was for me. Go early and enjoy the firm snow as you ascend. Let me know what route your taking up San J – as I was planning a Marion Mountain ascent after Memorial Day. If it’s snowy, I’ll go alone. If it’s clear, I’ll take friends.
