Peak San Gorgonio
Group N/A
Trailhead South Fork Trail

Due to permit availability and downright hubris, James and I found ourselves approved to hike Gorgonio via the South Fork Trail, camping at Dry Lake / Lodge Pole, a 24 mile round trip endeavor to be completed in a weekend. We could either do 18 miles on Saturday, and 6 on Sunday, or 6 on Saturday and a grueling 18 on Sunday. We chose the former.

We started around 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, and were met with various groups of hikers who were kicking off at the same time. It was a nice cool day, and a chilly wind was welcome as we lugged our packs constantly upward, at a steady pace. We made it to Dry Lake a little after 11 a.m. There was almost no signage identifying the camp area, but, after wandering around the lake for a bit, we saw a tent set up and pitched our own.

We hit the trail again around 12:00 p.m., and made it to the summit without incident around 4:30 p.m., just missing a huge group of baseball players that were descending from the peak. It was nice to have a bit of solitude at the top.
