Peak San Bernardino
Group NASSCO Hiking Club
Trailhead Fire Station / Main Trailhead

Well, this may have been the hardest hike to date. There are no mountains taller than about 6000 ft in the extreme southern part of SoCal (That’s San Diego, for those that are challenged, lol.) These are tough hikes, even though the weather has been somewhat friendly on the day we’re actually out there (Baldy 105 degrees day prior and 71 degrees day of is a great example)
But this is about San Bernardino mountain and the weather was a mild day. We were not sure if there would be running water up at the camp, so between the three of us (John Petersen, Raul Gil, and myself) we had about 28 liters of water for the two day trip. We made it up to Limber Pines and setup camp (I got to take a well earned nap while the boys setup the camp, LOL.) We headed towards the summit at 3:45 pm and found water still running part way up the trail as described as “seasonal water” in the research/ on the maps part of the logistics. There are three major ascents to this hike and the last one is from the camp to the summit, another 1500 ft of elevation change. This was the hardest part of the hike, as the third and final ascent was unforgiving and relentless. When we finally made the summit around 6:00 pm there wasn’t the 360 degree view we were all expecting, thus the name of the hike. TTFN
