Peak Mt Wilson
Group N/A
Trailhead Chantry Flat

My dad and I decided to overnight this one because we like to backpack and enjoy our trips. We started at Chantry Flats and hiked our way to Spruce Grove Campground. We got there pretty early because we wanted one of the coveted spaces with a fire pit. After setting up camp and snacking we set on our way to Mt. Wilson. Now I consider myself pretty active, and I have a physically demanding job. But this hike bagan to tire me out. It was more uphill than I imagined and my dad is way more experienced at hiking than I am. But I kept going.

The most depressing part was the “halfway rest” sign when you’re 1.4 miles away from camp and 1.4 miles away from the peak. I was literally reciting different motivational quotes in my head that I would post on Facebook at the end of this. The higher we got the more I wanted to stop, but I didn’t. When we were pretty much to the top it was hot, we were sweaty, but considering, it was a beautiful day for a hike.

When we reached the top I was so happy with myself, that satisfaction is what will get me through the next 5 peaks. We took some pictures, texted our loved ones (because it was the only place we had reception) and visited the observatory.

On our way down we became the motivation for the tired, “you’re almost there”, “it’s worth it”, “just keep going “. That night we sat around an amazing fire with some really nice weather and enjoyed the end of our trip. That truly sparked my fire to hike the other peaks!

  1. I put that because I kept telling everyone that I was “turtling” up the mountain lol so I’m the turtle. My dad can go a lot faster than me, but he is nice enough to take breaks and be patient
