Peak Mt Wilson

Trailhead Chantry Flats

What a perfect day for a 14 mile hike!!

Unfortunately i wasn’t the only one who thought that. We arrived around 630 AM and the parking lot was already FULL. As if the dozens of cars we passed to get to the parking lot wasn’t already a sign. So by the time we parked, walked to the trailhead, gathered everything and everyone together, it was approx. 7AM and we were ready to rock… Now I’m not going to go into the details of every nook and cranny this hike has to offer, get out there and fully experience it for yourself! The ascent to the summit was beautiful! Just under 7 miles of trees, streams, and waterfalls made the climb pleasant. IT WAS NOT EASY! But then, anything worth it shouldn’t be, right? The last few miles were rough. The switchbacks seemed to go on and on and the burn in my legs was real!

Saw a few other challengers on the trail, stopped and chatted for a while as we refueled. The views once the trail began to open up were amazing! Wasn’t as clear as i was hoping for, but wasn’t left disappointed. We finally summit at 4 hours flat. We walked over to the 100 in. telescope and noticed snow still sitting around, so i made a snowball and threw it at my Girlfriend… score! We crossed the bridge to sit and have a little snack while we waited for the rest of our group to summit. Once we were all together, we headed to the Cosmic Cafe, which wasn’t open, but they were offering free hot beverages(tea, hot chocolate, etc.). I donated to the cause and helped myself to some hot cocoa. Perfect.

We regrouped and headed to the Mt Wilson trail over on the other end of the parking lot, and after taking a few summit pics, we headed back down. The descend was nice. Not as enjoyable as i was anticipating, as my knees and feet began giving me problems, but it was tolerable.

Once we got down to the stream and the camp sites, the hike became more pleasurable, as the descend was over and the scenery became more pleasant. I loved that the trail zig zagged back and forth through the stream. We finally turned the last corner and saw our starting point. We did it! We crossed that bridge to start that walk UP back to the parking lot (that last hike up was killer after completing 14 miles!).

Overall, the hike was amazing! Great day spent with the fam and cannot wait until our next adventure. I am so happy challenges like this exist! There is nothing more rewarding than accomplishing something you never really thought would be possible. The remaining 5 hikes will be EPIC! #sixpackofpeaks #supersnailshikingclub
