Wow. This peak was by far the hardest of the five I have done thus far. This trail was never ending and all I could think about was how I was going to have to turn around and hike all the way back down when I was already feeling defeated. Nevertheless, I climbed on and eventually summited. We left Vivian Creek trailhead at 5:19am and did not reach the summit until 11:40am, yes it took me 6.5 hours to get up there. In my defense, I had hiked Mt. Baldy the day before. I sure hope San G gets easier the next time I want to have a personal suffer-fest. If I’m being honest, I did not return to my car until 5:23pm and immediately laid down in my backseat before I could even attempt to drive anywhere. The importance of hydrating and re-fueling throughout the ENTIRE hike is of utmost importance and I learned it the hard way. In terms of trail conditions, I just used my poles and used caution at the few snow patches. This was Peak #5 on my Six Pack of Peaks challenge and Peak #2 for Adventure 16’s 3-Peak Challenge. Happy to get this one checked off.
Thank you for the info 🙂 Great job! You’re amazing. How did San Gorgonio compare to Mt. Wilson?
Hi Beatriz, thank you for the comment. I thought San Gorgonio was at least 10 times harder than Mount Wilson. Mind you, I had hiked Mt. Baldy the day before I hiked San Gorgonio but even so, San G seemed never-ending!! Regardless, you’ll kick butt. Good luck!
