Trailhead Momyer

Our last hike to complete our 6 peak challenge was simply AMAZING! Since we were doing the Momyer trailhead, we decided to do this hike as a backpacking trip. 40+lbs on our backs and we were ready to camp at the summit…. little did we know that mother nature had other plans. The first 2 miles were done in nice sunshine, the wind was a little chilly but nothing unbearable. From mile 3-8 the rain really kicked our butts. At mile 9, hail and thunderstorm began. At this point we realized that camping at the summit wasn’t an option anymore. We were soaked and our “water resistant” packs were no longer keeping the water out. We decided to camp at saddleback (10 miles in). Thankfully as we set camp we got a little break from the rain. The night was calm but a bit cold. We woke up super early to make the summit and come back that same day. On our way up we saw a fox! Once we finally reached the summit we realized that our summer challenge had come to an end. It was a bitter/sweet moment. I was overwhelmed with emotions. I had literally completed the hardest thing in my life. My hiking partner and I were the only ones in the entire world at the summit at that time. It was great! I got the chance to feed a really adorable chipmunk (yes i know no feeding the wild life…but I did it and i don’t regret it). The way down was nice, all sunshine and the trail was easy to follow. On the way down I was thinking about our next adventure! I am so thankful I finished. I never thought my body was capable of doing such amazing things! On to the next adventure!!
