Peak Mt Wilson

Trailhead Chantry Flats

I am an avid hiker right from childhood in India. However after I joined college I lost the touch. Couple of years back, after moving to CA, the mountains in LA area rekindled love affair with hiking. I gradually went from strength to strength and last year I did a LA to Boston hiking tour. I hiked Mt Baldy (LA’s tallest) and then while I was in Boston hiked Mt Washington (Boston’s tallest) 9 days apart. That gave me tremendous confidence and high. What more can I do to top this.. I decided to sign up for six pack of peaks challenge.

I must admit that I was nervous as I did not get to prepare much because of the extended rain. Couple of small hikes around Thousand Oaks and then I decided to take a plunge as the goal is to hike 1 peak every month to hit the 30th Sept deadline. Because of excitement and nervousness, I woke up at 4 am every morning for 2 days. That was the same time, I started my drive to Chantry flats on Sunday – March 27th.

I reached Chantry flats by 6.30 am and by 6.45 am I was on my way. It was a beautiful, shaded hike and I was up the peak by 11.15 am. The instructions from HikingGuy helped a lot. It was cold and I had a nice chili soup at the cafe. I started my return at 12.30 returned back in couple of hours. The only bad part was it was cloudy and could not get any views below. For a fraction the cloud cover opened and I could take a snapshot of snowy Mt Baldy towering over a distance.

In the end, I was a happy hiker ready for my next peak and couple of sweet thoughts which I read on my way..

– Take care of the land, someday you will be part of it
– May your search through nature.. lead you to yourself
