Peak Mt Wilson
Group N/A
Trailhead Chantry Flat

The weather was perfect. Cool and misty for the entire hike. We discovered (Doing this challenge with my husband) that my pack likes to squeak going downhill. I think it’s the upper internal frame. So that was annoying.

We live in Big Bear, so we left at around 4am to get parking. We got the the lot at 6:21 and I am pretty sure we got the last spot in the lot.

Man, this was hard. We need a lot more training before tackling the other peaks because man, this was hard. Near the end I was following the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s method of making it through anything for 10 seconds and then starting again. Ten steps, one, two… and then start again, one, two…

We had lunch at the top – I made sandwiches – and hot tea afterwards because it was freakin cold up there. Then we headed down the other side and luckily had someone tell us which way to go when we hit the old toll road.

It was beautiful and a perfect day weather wise, but did I mention it was hard? Yeah.

  1. Loved the “Unbreakable” anecdote! That’s actually something mountaineers do on Mt Everest… though they call it a rest step. B-O-R-I-N-G. I like your description better.

I’m looking forward to hiking Mt Wilson myself in a few weeks.
