Trailhead Marion Mountain trail

My wife has gotten pretty annoyed with me lately since I’ve left the last 4 weekends for 6 pack hikes. So this weekend I took her along to Idyllwild for two nights. She wasn’t going to hike with me, but we had a great time exploring Idyllwild for the first time. We had a beer and dinner at Idyllwild Brew Pub the night before (carbo-loading!). Going to Idyllwild saved me a 2 hour drive to the mountain from LA in the morning and I was able to start at 5am. I also didn’t have to drive back after the long day of hiking. The views from the summit are amazing. When you pop out of the woods and scramble up the rocks it’s breathtaking. The only sad part is it seems someone decided to kill a huge rattle snake right on the path. It was the biggest I’ve ever seen, 5 feet and thinker then one hand can wrap around. It probably happened while I was on the summit because I didn’t notice it on the way up and it was right on the trail. I don’t like snakes, but I would never harm them. It appears like it was killed as it slithered away since it was flat and not in a coiled attack/defense position. It was also on a switchback corner where it would have been easy to go around. Sad…
