Peak San Jacinto
Group 3H - Hiking-for-Health-and-Happiness
Trailhead Marion Mountain Trail

Compared with my July 22 hike to San Gorgonio, this hike to San Jacinto was more pleasant having gotten more hours sleep the previous night. This one I joined when I found out that 3H still had room in their permit for this hike. 3H did this hike both on Saturday and Sunday, I went on the Saturday group. The hike up was excellent though largely uneventful except for the awe of the scenery. Before heading to the summit, just below the emergency hut, we were treated to a feast by some 3H members who had brought a stove and food and cooked for the group. The meal was great! After resting, we resumed our hike to the hut and then continued to the summit. The real fun began on the While doing the switchbacks down to Little Round Valley, I fell behind the group although I knew the trail so I wasn’t worried. It had gotten cloudy at the summit and on the way down it started to pour. Rain, I thought. Until I saw solid ice on the ground then it hit me: it’s hail!. At that point I decided to speed hike to Little Round Valley as the hail came down. Fortunately by the time I got to Little Round Valley, the drops were liquid and it was rain instead of hail. I somewhat relaxed a bit and then continued down back to the trailhead.
