Trailhead Marion Mountain

Great weekend for a hike. We took our little rig up to Marion Mountain campground, found a great Bbq restaurant (Uncle B’s) in Idyllwild for dinner. After a peaceful night in the campground we pulled out early to park in the day use area. Being mostly overcast for the hike we weren’t bothered with any direct sun the whole day. I think I say this after every hike in the challenge but this trail was absolutely beautiful. We met alot of really great fellow hikers along the way in fact hike most of the way down with 2 groups. We had lunch in little round valley and then continued up the trail towards the summit. I must say that I continue to be bothered with the altitude once I get to the 9000′ line. We made the summit after a crazy rock climb from the cabin (always a challenge somewhere). Stood in line for our photos and just enjoyed the absolutely stunning views. As we were enjoying a snack before our descent we heard a noise coming from the south when all of the sudden a glider came out of nowhere and flew right over the top of the peak , I’m sure it startled everyone there from the comments we were hearing all around. This glider made a few runs over the peak but none lower than the first. Our hike down was pretty uneventful, other than being hungry, which we fixed with another visit to Uncle B’s Bbq. We are now down to one more hike for the challenge, San Gorgonio awaits us in September.
