Peak San Jacinto
Group N/A
Trailhead Marion Mountain

I really enjoyed San Jacinto Peak. First of all, I love Idyllwild, so we made a little camping trip out of it the night before we summited the peak. We started at 4:00 am because we really wanted to get a jump on the hike before it got too hot. We used headlamps and although I was slightly paranoid about bears and mountain lions, absolutely nothing bothered us. It was great to hike this early too because we were probably only half-awake, and I barely remember the steep beginning parts that we had been warned about. By the time it was getting light outside we were on the more enjoyable part of the hike. This hike was particularly awesome because my friend and I were the very first people to reach the peak all morning… I guess starting early had its benefits. At the top we talked with 2 volunteers who were very friendly and offered to take our picture. We also made sure to check out the little log cabin at the top before summiting back down. I remember people telling us that this hike was very difficult, but because it was so hyped up in our minds as being extremely difficult, by the end I didn’t really think it was that bad. Or maybe it’s because this was my 5/6 hike and I was getting used to these hikes in high altitude… either way I really enjoyed Jacinto.
