Trailhead Marion Mountain

On September 3rd, my husband and I began our 2nd backpacking adventure up Mt. San Jacinto. This hike was extremely strenuous—the elevation gain in the short amount of distance was killer. This was a tremendously steep hike. We had an early start, but the weight we were carrying, coupled with the steepness, meant that we didn’t get farther than Little Round Valley on Day 1. We arrived at camp by 2 p.m. but it was way to cold (and windy…and rainy) to do anything but hunker down in our tents. It was so windy it pulled our tent’s pegs out of the ground. The next morning, we got an early start and quickly hiked the last mile to the summit. The views were awesome, but again, it was really cold at the top due to the wind—I’m starting to sense a pattern. So we returned to camp, packed up, and journeyed all the way back to the trailhead.
