Trailhead San Bernardino Peak Trail 1W07

We parked the FJ in Forest Falls, and Paul (the local newspaper editor) shuttled us to the Angelus Oaks Trailhead. We started our hike at the San Bernardino Peak Trail 1W07, hiked up to San Bernardino Peak, followed the Peak Divide Trail east along the ridge line, took a slight detour on the Forsee Creek Trail to grab more water at High Meadow Springs, merged back on to the Peak Divide Trial, and followed the trail past several more peaks to Dollar Lake Saddle where we camped for the night (and oh yeah, we saw a flock of bighorn sheep just before we got to the campsite!). All day, weather was cloudy to the south and quite chilly. At our camp on Dollar Lake Saddle, temperatures quickly dropped into the 20s in the evening. The total distance for the day was 14 miles with most of the days hike above 10,000 feet once we reached San Bernardino Peak.

  1. Thanks so much for the writeup. I’m looking to backpack there and overnight at Dollar lake. Do you know if the lake is dry? If so is the last source of water Santa Ana River at south fork?
