I had looked at the trail splitting off from the Ski Hut trail and thought about taking it, but I heard it was steep and I didn’t want to go up with anybody and slow them down. This day I decided to give it a shot. It’s shorter, but damn it’s steep. I kept expecting it to level off for a little bit, but it didn’t. That’s a steep trail. Not the steepest. Never disconcerting or scary, but relentless. It’s not that long, but it took me a long time.
I got up to the main trail and thought about tagging Harwood instead and heading down, but I took a little rest and then pulled my britches up and went up to the summit of Mt. Baldy. When I got up there someone got us all together and we sang “America the Beautiful” in honor of the 4th of July. Then down the Ski Hut trail and off for a well earned root beer float. Now that I’ve gone up Register Ridge I’ll try it again and hope to better my abysmal time.
