Peak #4 – Mt. San Jacinto

| Trailhead | Marion Mountain Trailhead |
This was the second sainted peak and #4 my and my wife have completed.
After lots of research we prepped up with enough food, water and supplies to make it up the peak the night before and head out early Sunday morning to the Idyllwild ranger station to get our permit. Once submitted we made it to the trailhead at around 6:30 AM.
It was early, cool and cloudy. Definitely was a good start. The trail was beautiful, woody and rocky but well marked from the beginning. I had downloaded an offline map to use thru the Cairn app on my iPhone of the trail so that definitely helped us out to make out forks that weren’t marked well.
It must’ve taken us about two hours and lots of great views til we got to the campground near the peak. There we got to see the small creek and a toilet which was definitely a welcoming sight!
From that point it took us about 1 more hour and half to the peak. We decided to skip the stone hut and climb it to the peak at around 11 AM with lots of people that had made it to the peak as well from different trails.
After catching up to our breaths and getting acclimated to the altitude we had what got to be the most delicious Jersey Mike’s wrap we had bought the night before to take up to the peak. We took lots of pictures at the peak and started our trek down after about an hour. We also decided to check out the inside of the stone hut which was awesome and took pictures inside.
On our way down we checked out all the different views, rock formations, and small creeks. It took us about 2 and a half to make it back to the trailhead parking lot and by that time it was sunny and hot.
Definitely this is a peak we would do again. And definitely this time due to prepping up with clif shot chews, nuun electrolyte tablets and lots of water this was way more enjoyable!
