Trailhead Icehouse Canyon Trailhead

With the lessons learned from Mt. Wilson, prepped with enough food and water to trek up Cucamonga Peak early in the AM. A month earlier we had seen how packed the lot gets so we started early after a light breakfast. We started our trek up at 6:00 AM.

I had read up info on the trail and along with an app where I downloaded the trail map it proved to be useful. The views from the bottom of the creek and old ruins of houses was really cool. We didn’t stop and kept going up.

The trail was easy to follow up to the Icehouse area. From there it was a steady uphill up and at about 2 miles from that point was at a resting point where lots of trails met up. Took a break there for a quick snack and some water. Took a bit to find the trail to Cucamonga Peak from that point. To the left were two trails and to the right three. The middle trail was the Cucamonga Peak trail.

From that point the 3 mile trek up to Cucamonga Peak went downhill for about a 1/2 mile and then was a steady up hill hike from a small notch of flat land in between the Cucamonga Peak and small peak. It took about 1 hour from that point to get to the peak.

The views were awesome of all the Inland Empire to the east and the San Bernardino mountains and the San Gabriel valley and mountains to the west. Took some time taking pictures and a light lunch before heading back down.

On our way down, we ran for half of the trail along areas where it was easy to do so (definitely recommend Merrell hiking shoes). Took small beaks halfway for a quick snacks then ran for a couple more miles til we got to the bottom of the trail were the creek and ruins were at. This time took the opportunity to take pictures in the small falls and pools underneath trees.

Finally got back to trailhead. It took us about 5 1/2 hours round trip. This is another hike we would definitely do again, maybe even camp up at the peak.
