Peak Cucamonga Peak
Group With fellow challenger Jason
Trailhead Icehouse Canyon

Overall, a pretty perfect day for my second peak in two days. We got to the trailhead at 6:35am and the parking lot was already completely full. I forgot how popular this trail is on the weekends! We managed to hit the trail by 6:45.

Took a brief break at the saddle, then pressed on to the summit. I felt surprisingly good considering that I had hiked Mt Wilson the day before, and there was virtually no snow left on the trail. There was one patch where I had to take exactly two steps in the snow, and that’ll probably be gone by the end of this weekend. Yes, Cucamonga Peak is officially OPEN FOR HIKING!

Of course, no where was this more evident than at the summit, where it was a veritable party. LOTS of people. The famous rock outcrop (which is not actually the summit) had a queue of people waiting to have their photo taken. I passed.

I did get a chance to meet a lot of other Six-Pack of Peaks Challengers and talk to many of them. A total blast.

On the way down, Jason and I stopped to enjoy the especially beautiful Icehouse Creek. I soaked me feet and used my Buff to cool and refresh my neck and face. It was getting hot in the afternoon, and stopping at the creek was well worth it.

Afterward, we had lunch at the Buckhorn Lodge in Baldy before heading our respective ways.

Tomorrow? The Climb for Heroes on Mt Baldy!
