Trailhead Mt. Wilson Trail - Sierra Madre

The day was perfect with semi cloudy conditions and very cool weather. I convinced a friend to hike this with me. I’ve hiked half way up to Mt Wilson before during the summer which is brutal during the first mile and a half or so with exposure to the sun. This was my first major hike and was determined to get to the top no matter what. I’ve signed up to hike Mt. Kilimanjaro by New Years so this challenge is a perfect way to prepare for it. The trail wasn’t very busy at all with a start time of 7am. You can hear water running down the streams early on the hike thanks to all the rain fall we’ve had this year. The hike was challenging but not as difficult as I would have imagined. I kept a slow and steady pace and made it to the peak in about 4 1/2 hours. I spent some time grabbing a bite to eat at the cafe at the top and explored the observatory area. I decided to come back down the trail heading to Chantry Flats for a change in scenery. That hike down was beautiful to see with the creek accompanying us towards the end. Ended up finding a nice couple to give us a ride down the mountain from the parking lot. Looking forward to hiking Mt. Wilson again very soon!
