Peak Mt Wilson
Group N/A
Trailhead Chantry Flats

A good starter hike for the 6 Pack. I’m training for Mt. Whitney in 6 weeks, doing a 6 pack one a week leading up to it. I’ve been doing practice hikes for the past 4 weeks before starting the 6 pack so this wasn’t that hard for me. Within the first hour I heard some branches falling and discovered a black bear down by the stream on the Sturtesvant Trail. A surprising encounter because it’s such a heavily used trail. I was all alone when it happened. I whipped out my phone which is in a velcro sleeve and that alerted the bear of my presence. He froze right away and stared at me. Then he hid behind a tree and kept poking his head out to look at me. I videotaped the encounter, but it doesn’t look like i can post it here. Posting a crappy screenshot instead. It went on for 2 minutes until he got bored and left. My adrenaline was pumping and it gave me excitement and energy to knock this peak out. I took the winter creek trail down.
