Getting up the saddle isn’t bad. once you hit the last part of the switch backs you start to get into some snow. Proper gear is highly recommended this time of year. Not really necessary to get to the saddle but from there on out It can get pretty dangerous if you aren’t prepared. After a short break we saw a couple guys taking off for the Cucamonga trail so we jumped on the caboose and we were off. Also, There is no trail to follow with all the snow. We used a gps and stayed as close to what the map said as possible. After summiting we hung out for a bit and had lunch. We cut our time in half on the way back by sliding down the mountain, couple close calls but so much fun. of course, walking back from the saddle to the parking lot felt like a time loop. Feels like forever after 9 grueling hours, especially when you’re ready for a ice cold beer.

  1. Thanks for making the trek with the snow, we were wondering how much was left with this warm weather we have been having. Guess we need to wait it out a bit more!

  2. Jeff,
We just had our poles. Honestly, once you got passed the saddle the snow got deep enough that it didn’t really matter what kind of traction you had, It was the poles that saved my life every other step haha.

  3. Hey Lee,
I would take a screen shot of the trail atleast. Im sure there’s still snow up there right now. we used the standard navigation on our phones while up there. the trail actually showed up for us. Definelty take poles and crampons if you have them. Have a great hike!
