Peak Mt Wilson

Trailhead Upper Winter Creek Trail

My son and I started the trail around 10:00 am. We had to park very far from Chantry Flat which did not bother us. We decided to start clock wise and attacked the climb from Upper Winter Creek Trail, arriving Hoegees and continuing on Manzanita trail and the fire road. We were so glad to be on the shade almost of the time. Taking a detour (because we missed the little short cut trail), we added one more mile to our grand tour and finally arrived to the top. We took a rest, enjoying the shade and socializing at the Cosmic cafe. After taking picture and eating we visited the observatory museum and started our descent from Sturtevant Trail down to Spruce Grove, Cascade down to fern Lodge and back to Chantry Flat. After 16 miles we decided and still had energy to ran down to the car ( especially my son).
What I loved about this peak: It was a hot day but Mt Wilson offers a lot of shady trails and we were barely exposed to full sun. It is a runnable loop, and there is water refill stations.
