Peak Mt Wilson
Group With my hiking buddy
Trailhead Chantry Flats

We got there before 7:00 am on Saturday, the parking lot was already full and many cars parked on both sides of the road. We ended up parking almost a mile down. Didn’t really planned on adding more distance to already long hike but no choice. Went down the paved road and quickly was able to enjoy beautiful scenery and many falls. The sound of water running down the mountain was very relaxing. The trail condition was excellent. The first half to the camp was pleasant, gradual incline. And then we started the never ending switch backs. Once we started the final climb my legs were burning, it was getting warmer and more sunny spots. It seemed there was no end to the switchback. Our stops were more frequent, talked to many friendly hikers. Everyone keep saying “you are almost there”. Majority of them were hiking Mt. Wilson for the 1st time. Finally made it to the top. Wow, the views of the neighboring mountains and LA made it all worth it! The weather was absolutely perfect. We took long lunch, well deserved rest and walked around a bit to take photos. Trip down was so much easier. We ended up taking the upper trail so we would end up above parking lot as the thought of hiking that paved road did not seem very doable at this point. This route adds 1 mile, mostly flat. We were super tired but felt sense of accomplishment. One down five more to go!
