We expected it to be hard, and we were not disappointed! Wow- the uphill was relentless. But what beautiful scenery! There were some trail repairs going on at a couple wash out spots before Orchard Camp. Plenty of water flowing along the way. Snow and slush at the top made it a bit slippery, but the day was beautiful and quite warm. We were disappointed that the water was turned off at the cafe, but nice of them to have hot coffee and hot water for visitors. It was pretty busy with several groups of hikers. It took us about 5 hours to get to the top and 3 to get down again. Plenty of free parking on the Sierra Madre side, but it is a steep trail!
