Peak San Gorgonio
Group Me and Yesenia
Trailhead Vivian Creek

Continuing Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge with Yesenia by summiting Mt. Gorgonio yesterday (4/12/17). This is our #4 hike out of 6 total.
This was a VERY tough hike in the snow! In the summer, Gorgonio usually takes me 7.5 hours to complete but this time it took us 16 hours to complete because of very tough snow conditions. The trail was COMPLETELY covered with ice and snow so we had to really slow down while C-A-R-E-F-U-L-L-Y passing each treacherous icy incline where trail used to be. Also, all switchbacks were covered in snow so we had to climb steep inclines straight up at least 4 different times. Overall, this was an EXHAUSTING hike that turned into mountaineering at some parts where we had to use ice axe quite a bit and had to wear crampons for grip against ice. We still managed to summit the peak in these crazy icy conditions. If I were to do it over again, I would postpone hiking Gorgonio until snow melts so trail can be exposed because we had to rely on our navigation tools to find the way. #sixpackofpeaks #Gorgonio

  1. Well done. I did San G in the snow last year, but we didn’t have nearly as much. We still needed crampons and ice axe up the slope above High Creek, but from the ridge to the summit microspikes were enough.

    Great accomplishment, Denis!
