Peak San Bernardino
Group Jason and Ric
Trailhead Forsee

This was the first day of an overnight backpack trip to bag both San Bernardino Peak and Mt San Gorgonio in one go. I wanted to try a different trailhead, so we opted to start at the Forsee Creek trailhead, then split off on the John’s Meadow trail.

This route starts out gently for the first 3.3 miles to John’s Meadow Campground, then begins a STEEP climb, joining the main San Bernardino trail at the “wheelbarrow” junction.

We stopped to refill our water at Limber Pine Spring, and marched on to the summit. There were a lot of other Six-Pack of Peaks Challengers up there (great meeting you all!). After breaking for lunch, we continued on the San Bernardino Divide Trail towards San Gorgonio. We ended up camping at Red Rock Flat Campground — about 4 miles from the summit of San Gorgonio.

This route is also known for being part of the 9-Peak Challenge, though I didn’t bag the other seven peaks this time around.
