Peak San Gorgonio

Trailhead Vivian Creek Trailhead

Last but certainly not least!! The longest, tallest, most elevation gain–did not disappoint. This was definitely tough, but overall felt pretty good. The socalhiker blog entry on this hike really helped me mentally. I knew that there were 5 distinct sections. And I knew that it would be long and I would want to be done by the end, but to just ENJOY it. And I did!!

As always, the switchbacks are not a problem for me. But that last section…ooweee! That was tough! The long, exposed diagonal to the peak was pretty dang hard.

I was so grateful I dressed appropriately for this hike. It was COLD. Like, straight up winter. BUT I did make a huge mistake. I didn’t pack enough food! I don’t know what I was thinking. This hike was the longest and hardest, and I brought less food. I usually always have leftovers…but I wasn’t expecting my body to need more energy because of how cold it was. I ran out of food at the peak… definitely thought of Sam and Frodo discussing lembus bread for their return journey. Made the hike down extra long because I was definitely running on reserves. Immediately went to a gas station and downed a bottle of chocolate milk. Works wonders.

Aside from the food though, it was a lovely end to this challenge!!!
