Peak Mt Wilson
Group My Husband Frank - we call ourselves "The Hiking Vikings"
Trailhead Chantry Flats

Don’t know how we managed to do it but by the time we were finished our loop we hiked 14 miles. It took 5 hours up and 4 hours down. The trial is steep – we were sucking wind pretty much the whole way up but it was so beautiful! We were under the canopy of the forest for most of the way and the temperature was just perfect. The trail is well maintained and the signage was good. I have done a lot of the biggies in California including Half Dome and Whitney and this is a respectable hike! We both felt very proud at the end and we drove straight to the Hat in Pasadena and ate our Pastrami Dips and drank our Dr. Pepper without any shame. We earned those bad boys!

  1. Ha Ha – no my sign does not say that but it should! When I hike Cucamonga and Baldy my sign should say “I’m taking the challenge to eat at Petiscos” cause we are already planning to hit that place after both hikes! If you haven’t tried it you must!

  2. Good job guys, and you are right, it’s a pretty rough hike. I attempted it just this last Tuesday, yet couldn’t make it. That long grade out of Sturtevant Camp just killed me. I made a few switch backs after and was done. But yes, a gorgeous trail system under tree cover, made for a great hike! Don’t count me out tho, I’ll be back!!!

  3. Thank you Shawn. Once make it through those switchbacks you are home free & it’s so worth it. Good luck on your next attempt. I know you will make it!
