Trailhead | Mt Wilson trail via Sierra Madre |
Started off the Hike great. The first couple of miles was not that bad or that steep and the weather was nice and cool. But as soon as mile 3 came around it got crazy steep and a little humid. By then it was already 10 am. Once you get to what looks to be a fire road on mile 5 it started to get more do able. Someone gave me a shock block and I felt soooo much better. At the peak of the mountain it was completely covered by fog, and a thin layer of snow. There was coffee and hot cocoa under a mezzanine and I have to say it was the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted! Possibly due to a 7 mil, 5k elevation trek up a mountain.
I see a lot of posts saying to bring plenty of water, and although I agree with them I think electrolytes and food are just as important. Take a bottle of Gatorade and shock blocks and you will be fine.
